Barnes & Nobles Fundraiser

Just recently I walked into Barnes & Nobles to get a children's book as a gift for someone and came across a fundraiser that was going on. How it works is you can pick any book in the children's department and pay for it upfront with your other purchases. You tell the cashier what book you want donated. The cashier at Barnes & Nobles said it goes to the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center.

I took some pictures to show you how the fundraiser was set up. Sorry for the glare in the pictures.

Book Review: What Color Is Your Parachute? 2016: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers

I decided to do a review on  What Color Is Your Parachute?2016: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunter and Career-Changers by Richard N. Bolles because I will be entering the job market soon and needed an updated book on getting a job. Below is my review.

This is a great updated book for people who are looking either for a new job, career change or who been out of the workforce for a few years. I like the exercises in the book for finding your dream career. I like how the author helps a person with interviewing questions and how to read in between the lines at what an employer wants.

What I didn't like was when the author said everyone in the world is disabled. No, not everyone is. There are tons of people with invisable disabilities that have trouble getting jobs. Another thing I didn't like was the fact that towords the end of the book had a religious chapter. I skipped that chapter. Otherwise this is a great book for for job hunters to read.

I got this book from Blogging For Book in exchange for an honest review.

A few days ago in my hometown of Plano,TX, I saw a Little Free Library. Basically it is a small library that is open to the public where you can take books out and put in your own books in its place.  You can find them all around the world.  Find an LFL near you!

This one is the one I can upon a few days ago.
Have you came across a Little Free Library before?

Library Book Sale & Book Fest

In Dallas,TX the children and I went to the library book sale and library fest at Lakewood Library. The book sale was in one room and went into the hallway. The library fest part had arts and crafts and face painting. It also, included buying tickets to win gift baskets donated by local businesses.

Here are some pictures that were taken.
Face painting on my daughter. She picked the strawberry.
These are the two arts and crafts projects she did at the library.
There were lots of books to choose from at the library book sale. Everyone went home happy!

Support Your Local Libraries

Anytime you have to ability to support your local libraries, please do!

For example many of the libraries near me have books, movies, cd, etc that you can buy in the lobby for low cost.

You can also, fill out a donation form and give any amount that you are able to give.

The library closest to me sells reusable bags with the library logo on it. The one I bought was $5.00.

If your unable to help support the library financially, then maybe you can still help out by volunteering. It can be long term volunteering, short term or one time event volunteering(ex. library books sales, etc.)

So I hope you enjoy the few tips that I gave regarding the supporting the local libraries.

What I like about going to the Friends of the Library Book Sale in Plano is that there are always plenty of books for people to have. I have never left this book sale without getting any books. They have a great variety for everyone.

Our family can't wait till next years book sale. Does your family attend any book sales in your area?

Introducation To This Blog

What makes this blog different is that I'm writing a variety of things that have to do with books.  Unlike some book blogs that do only reviews, I include things happening in the book industry too.

So I will do a combination of both book reviews and things going on in the book industry. I hope you enjoy this book blog.
